Free e-Waste Recycling Events 2009

Success stories!

Nearly 3,000 cars drove through the public events on May 9, 2009.
Nine events in Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint collected approximately 210 tons of e-waste! This equals 21 semi-trailers loads of computer monitors, CPUs, keyboards, TVs, and other electronics. Most importantly, this effort:

It was extremely well organized and much appreciated. I hope this type of event can occur again. - Dean Girbach, Saline Resident

  • Prevented hazardous elements from contaminating soil and water systems
  • Returned precious metals, plastics and glass to the commodity stream to manufacture new materials

Thanks to those who responsibly recycled and Ann Arbor Public Schools,  Ford Fairlane Program Center, Genesee County Land Bank, and Washtenaw Intermediate School District for their contributions!

e-Waste is the fastest growing waste stream in the country
The EPA reports:

  • Approximately 500 million outdated computers were replaced from 1997-2000.
  • 3.2 million tons of e-waste is dumped in landfills every year.
